ZU2 - The Joshua Tree Shows

ZU2 recorded ‘The Joshua Tree’ for the Nottingham Arts Council in 2009 and following the success of this they are bringing ‘The Joshua Tree’ to a theatre near you. Back to back tracks from the infamous album will be performed and then will be followed in the second half by an array of Greatest Hits that U2 have ever performed. Hits will include Magnificent from their new album ‘No Line On The Horizon’, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Vertigo, Mysterious Ways, New Years Day, Unforgettable Fire to name but a few. Details of which shows will feature The Joshua Tree album will be clearly shown on the Coming Events Page so keep a look out for details.

"Floyd & U2"

With a sound that is unmistakingly pure Floyd & U2 these groups set a new standard in the art of tribute shows. UK Pink Floyd is regarded as the most authentic tribute to Pink Floyd and have performed all over the UK to rave reviews. Featuring 9 incredible musicians UK Pink Floyd will be opening this unique double header with the whole rendition of the classic album ‘Dark Side Of The Moon.’ This album remained in the album charts for 14 years, the longest duration of any album in history. This was Pink Floyd’s most commercially successful album with an estimated 45 million copies sold worldwide and produced hits that include ‘Money’ and ‘Us & Them’, not to mention ‘Great Gig In The Sky’. Then once you have got your breath back from the interval ZU2 – The leading U2 tribute show will be performing the infamous ‘Joshua Tree’ album which is one of the world’s best-selling albums of all time, having sold over 25 million copies. ‘The Joshua Tree’ increased U2’s stature ‘from heroes to superstars’ and produced several massive hit singles, including ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, ‘With Or Without You’ and ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’. ZU2’s lead guitarist replicates the woolly hatted one’s fluid style to a tee and Bono’s doppelganger has perfectly captured this legendary performer’s throaty rasp and effortless falsetto. Voted one of the top ten tributes in Europe this really is a concert not to be missed.

Best Review Of The Year

We received this email which we wanted to share with you all as it says everything about ZU2 and how U2 still obtain new fans despite being together for over 30 years. Take a look at this;

'Dear ZU2, Last night Saturday 220809 together with my partner we saw U2 in Cardiff at the Millenium Stadium and was absolutely blown away, what a night. Why I am contacting you is to say a big thank you. I was never previously a great U2 fan but my partner is and she tried to convince me how good they are. Having seen you in concert at Barnstaple earlier this year I was so impressed by your performance that persuaded me to see the real band in concert which I will never forget. I cannot thank you enough because I saw the tribute band first which are so good that they convinced me that my partner has always been right. I will look forward very much to seeing you again at sometime when you are in our area [ West Somerset ] in particular to see what you have done with their new material. Thank you again and very best wishes.' Steve Guscott

Bono Tattoo and now a fan of ZU2!

This is Warren, a massive fan of U2. So much so he has a tattoo of Bono on his stomach! Great Tattoo Warren. Warren witnessed our show last year at the Kings Theatre in Southsea and gave us this show review.

"Well what can I say. I am sitting here now as I type listening to your CD, studying every track, drum beat, bass line etc, AWESOME! If you gave that to a stranger and said it was u2 themselves, I don`t think they would know the difference. My miss's thought you were the real deal. Anyway, it meant a lot to me that you let me come back stage. You made my week and trust me i was having a bad one! I hope we stay in touch and i will definatley be coming to the Isle of Wight and your gig in Brighton. PEACE ZU2 FOREVER X" Warren, Portsmouth.

This gave us an idea to ask all U2 fans out there if you have any pics that you would like us to share on a our website with ZU2. We look forward to receiving your entries and those that get on to the website will receive a goody bag from ZU2 plus tickets to any show that we are performing at.

Even Better Than The Real Thing? Close Call!

U2 may have The Edge, but ZU2's guitarist Richard Ashford replicates the wooly-hatted one's soaring, shimmering and fluid style to a tee. His brother Russell is Bono's doppelganger, and has perfectly captured his holiness's throaty rasp and effortless falsetto.

Setting a new standard in the art of tributry, ZU2 somehow, amazingly, created the pulse-quickening drama and excitement of a massive stadium show within the genteel splendour of The Kings. And that is precisely where they score over the originals. I once saw U2 live at the old Wembley stadium, and all I can remember is having to jump up and down to catch the odd glimpse of Bono and the boys doing their stuff seemingly miles away. With blinding lights raking the auditorium and the sound that was unmistakably pure U2, a shockingly sparse audience was treated to a plethora of hits, starting with the blistering Vertigo and ending with the majestic I still haven't found what I'm Looking For. These men, including drummer Jamie Richardson and bassist Gareth Jenkinson, are consummate musicians, and developed great warmth and empathy with the enthusiastic crowd. Highlights included Where The Streets Have No Name, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and a few tracks requested by the audience at half time, including the blissful Angel of Harlem. They promised to come back again next year, and I would urge anyone who likes U2 to see them. Never mind a quiet night in - treat youself to a loud night out. ALAN COOPER, The News - Portsmouth.

Challenge ZU2!

With two of our UK dates completed we have been asking the concert goers to challenge ZU2 by writing a request of a U2 song during the interval to be included within the second half of the set. So far, ZU2 have met the challenge well with Spanish Eyes being performed on our debut night and Please being performed in Preston. 'This is an excellent opportunity for us to see how many hardcore U2 fans we have in the audience and also for us to show the fans how many U2 songs we know.' says Russ -aka- Bono. 'We have been really pleased with the level of participation on this element of the show and delighted with the response that we are getting overall. So many have said that they will be coming to other dates on our tour which says everything about the show. Thank you for your kind comments and we look forward to seeing you again over the coming weeks.'

All Ready to Rock'n Roll!

Following last night's final rehearsal held at The Festival Hall, Nottinghamshire to specially invited guests and family, ZU2 are already to Rock 'n' Roll. With so many graphics being used on the big screen we expected a few tweaks to be necessary but, it all ran without a hitch. Technology does work sometimes!?' RSVP

ZU2 performed at the RSVP show both during the day and at the party in the evening, both of which were in Manchester. As well as exhibiting at the event we met many interested companies whose prime objective when visiting the show was to look for outstanding entertainment for their corporate events. 'Sound check at 9am!' says Gareth -aka- Adam Clayton. 'I can honestly say that this was the earliest we have ever sound checked for a gig and once we had downed a few coffees it was very strange to be playing Vertigo at 9am'. It was a good turn out and we seemed to go down very well during our lunchtime slot. In the evening we performed at the 235 Casino in Manchester which is a great venue and we look forward to returning there to perform to the general public as this was a private event that we were asked to perform at.

Teenage Cancer Trust

TCTs top priority is building units in NHS hospitals specifically for teenagers with cancer. As well as superior medical facilities, these units are equipped with day rooms, kitchens, chill-out rooms and gardens where teenagers can relax and feel at home or have friends and family to visit in a comfortable environment. There are computers with internet access, pool tables, playstations, satellite TV, musical instruments, and other things teenagers might like to occupy their time with, or share with friends. Most importantly, the units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation and allow patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease.

A big thank you to all of those people that came to the concert at the Dubai 7's Rugby. All 12,000 of you! Although the final numbers have not been confirmed there were no less than 12,000 people enjoying the sounds of ZU2 earlier this month. With the opening of Vertigo the crowd pushed forward and were immediately jumping having had an excellent day out at the Rugby 7's. As the picture shows we were delighted to introduce Leyla on stage who belly danced throughout the hit 'Mysterious Ways.' Leyla said ' When I had confirmed that I was to perform with ZU2 I downloaded the original footage of Mysterious Ways from the internet and rehearsed the whole dance and I enjoyed every minute of it. The lads were great and Russ -aka- Bono was great to work with.' With a full 1 hour 45 minute performance many of the hits that Dubai wanted to hear were performed and the sound and lights were spectacular. Russ says' We were extremely well received and we are looking forward to working in the U.A.E again in 2008. It just goes to show that wherever we perform there is a massive following of U2 all around the world which is why we are looking forward to venturing into new countries in the world such as India, Pakistan as well as some new European countries.'

Oman 24th October 2007

ZU2 entertained a private party in Muscat, Oman last month with all of the classic hits being performed. With temperatures high in the 30's during the day the soundcheck definately made up for any loss of sunbathing time over the previous few days. 'It was long soundcheck and the sun just kept beating down on us' said Rich aka The Edge. 'Thankfully the evening was cooler and we enjoyed performing to the delight of over 600 people.' The client, who cannot be mentioned, was delighted with the gig and looks forward to working with us again.

Earlier in the day ZU2 did their second photo shoot of the tour with the leading english newspaper in Oman 'The Oman Tribune.'

Gulf Hotels International, Bahrain 25th October 2007

Having been welcomed in Bahrain by the Gulf Internationals Hotel Group we were delighted to learn that we were performing in front of 800 people whose wait to hear the sounds of ZU2 was finally over. With hits that we hadn't included in the previous gigs in the Gulf such as Desire and Angel Of Harlem the place rocked throughout the two hour set. 'What a great gig to complete the tour on. Everyone seemed to of been starved of U2 music until we arrived on stage and we really enjoyed the enthusiasm of all involved.' says Russ aka Bono. The Gulf Hotel, which has recently been refurbished as well as incorporating brand new 5 star apartments put ZU2 up in the new apartments to be able to claim to be the first guests ever to of stayed. Gareth aka Adam Clayton says ' What a fabulous hotel. The food, facilities and staff were all to a very high standard and we really look forward to working with them again.'

Moscow July 2007

Having successfully performed in Moscow in July ZU2 are looking forward to performing there again even perhaps before the end of 2007. The event organised by the Nightpeople Racing Club proved to be a great success with many people turning up to watch the performance. Rich aka the edge says "We were very well looked after and the organisation was very professional. We are very excited about the potential in Russia. Moscow is a massive city and we only touched the surface by visiting Red Square which I recommend to anybody." We look forward to updating you on forthcoming dates in Russia in due course.

Roko Naktys - Lake Plateliai, Lithuania August 2007

ZU2 made their first ever visit to Lithuania and has to be said ..... We loved every minute of it!! Bono says "We were a little sceptical at first with the audience because at this established Festival there were many european bands playing with more of a Metal influence. When we came on and started with I Will Follow there were 5,000 people jumping. It was incredible and we rolled off hit after hit to such a vocal audience. So a big thank you to all those fans and we look forward to seeing you again." Dates are currently being worked on for two more gigs in Klaipeda and Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. See more pictures of this event click here.

Clivedon Rocks - Clivedon, Berkshire UK August 2007

So after a few hours sleep ZU2 were once again on stage playing at Clivedon Rocks - a new festival that again had an excellent turn out. The organisers estimate that nearly 2,000 people came to bask in the glorious weather to watch a full blooded ZU2 performance. With fireworks on the intro to Vertigo and a welcomed belly dancer for the track 'Mysterious Ways' ZU2 kept everyone on their toes with a fabulous performance. "We enjoyed that" says Jamie - aka Larry Mullen. "The weather contributed to a great turn out and the crowd did not stop chanting from the opening song. Had a great view of the belly dancer but of course I was always concentrating on my timing!!"

Isle Of Wight - Cowes August 2007

Cowes week never seems to lose its popularity. It seems there are more boats and more people each year and ZU2 again displayed a great act for clients Etetra and On Deck. Thank you again for your hospitality and assisting us with some of the logistics that were needed at around 7.15pm!!! That said everyone at the private party enjoyed the sounds.
